Weaving Fun!!! By Nina
Room 10 were all sitting reading a book called Born to Weave, then we saw Aradia's mum, Mel walk in the door with a big plastic bag full of flax. Miss Pierson then told us that we were doing some weaving. Miss Pierson said to go an pick a sensible buddy. I chose Sharnika because I knew we would work together really well. Then Miss Pierson said we are making tipares. That's the Maori word for headbands. I was so excited! We all gathered around in a circle. Mel then said a karakia. Then Mel showed us the first step. We needed to get 2 pieces split in half. I was a little bit nervous, but it seemed like it was lots of fun! First we started on Sharnika's tipare. "Yay! We're getting there!" said Sharnika. I held the flax down while Sharnika flipped the flax over. Then we got started on my tipare. We finally finished! We looked really cool. It was the best day ever! We showed resilience because we never gave up! By Nina

Your writing has really interesting details Nina. Do you know why Mel said a karakia? It was to bless our learning experience so that we would all try hard and have a good time. It's also saying thank you for the harakeke we are blessed with here in New Zealand. We are so lucky! Maybe you could teach Georgia to make one!
ReplyDeleteNina Joy I really enjoyed reading your story, you use some very descriptive words. Sounds like you and Sharnika work very well together - beautiful photo too
