Bunny Love xox

Name this cutie!
Four of the cutest, furriest, cuddliest visitors came to see us in Room 10 today. It was such a warm, fuzzy start to our learning day and we loved it! Thanks Mel and Tyler for sharing your gorgeous little pets. You are very lucky to have such beautiful baby bunnies! Tyler would like some help with deciding the name for the little brown one he is going to keep. If you have a great suggestion, add it in a comment. There is a prize for the best name and of course that will be the bunny's new name. How special!

Ahoy there me hearties! Arrhh!

September 19th was International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
Room 10 had some pirate fun and there were a few rogue characters loose in the classroom as well. Read about some of the highlights...

On Friday I was One-eyed Eddie the Talkative. We had a teacher called Captain Mean Matthews. We played Pirates and the Gold, which is like Dog and the Bone but with pirates and gold. Instead of having Jelly Bean Moments, we had Skull and Crossbone Moments. By Mathias

On Friday I was Scrawny Gertrude the Dangerous. I really enjoyed making the pirate hats and the pirate treasure maps. By Nina

I was Sneaky Thomas the Dangerous on pirate day. We did an activity called Pirate and the Gold. By Rama

I was Marooned Tabitha the Smelly. We did a work sheet and we had to write it using four pirate names. We had to say what jobs they did that they were useless at. I wrote...
There's Pirate Koo-koo, who steers the ship's wheel with his leg and Pirate Lucy who digs for Juicies.
By Sharnika

Arrhh! my hearties!  My pirate name was Pirate Death Danger. We made a pirate hat. Mine was the best! By Reicoe

Just as well Scrawny Tabitha added her commas, she won't be walking the plank this time!
I be off to find the treasure!

Heart Central

I learnt today that kidneys are full of waste. If you drink water, the water will wash the waste out. If you are sick you can buy some medicine. I learnt that my heart is as big as my fist. At night when I am asleep, my brain keeps working. It does not go to sleep. I have learnt that I should drink 3 glasses of water a day. Water is a healthy drink. We breathe in oxygen then we breathe out carbon dioxide. If you have diabetes you need to take medicine. You have to exercise every day so your body can be fit.
By Julie

When we went to see Harold, we shrunk down and went into someone else’s body and went to Heart Central. Then Charlie said, “Oh! I’m late!” On Tuesday we went back to Harold. We learned about our circulation and kidneys. Did you know that if you have too much waste your wee gets dark but if it’s lighter it means that there’s not that much waste. That’s because you don’t drink enough water. Drink 3 or more glasses of water every day.
By Shekinah

At Life Education we learnt that you have to have the right medicine or you can die. The brain never stops going even if you go to sleep, no matter what! You have to drink three glasses of water every day. We only need medicine sometimes or you can get sick as. We breathe out carbon dioxide and oxygen comes back in. Harold sang us a song. I like the song he sang us.

Pekapeka Wetlands Slideshow

We had an absolutely super day at Pekapeka Regional Park today! The Wetlands were fascinating and the scenery stunning. We can't wait to share what we learned so keep checking in regularly. Please click and enjoy some of our photos from the day. It was really special to have the opportunity to plant some native flax at Pekapeka and leave something for others to enjoy behind. Did you know that tomorrow is Arbour Day?
Thanks so much to all the Mums and other helpers who came with us - you are awesome!

New Term - New Student!

Meet our new mascot George! He's a pretty huggable monkey who had a great day being cuddled and squeezed and loved by Room 10.  George is looking forward to having weekend visits with students. When he comes for the weekend he'll bring all his gear (clothing) and his Diary so that you can record and share what you do together with the class. He's usually well behaved, but today he got a bit excited and decided to swing on the learning goal hoop. Just as well Room 10 kids know this is a big no-no.

I hope George remembers to make good choices tomorrow.
How was your first day? What made you smile? Comment and share!

Time for Term 2

How exciting - it's nearly time to head back for Term 2! Thanks everyone for all your holiday comments. I loved hearing what you were up to and answering all the comments.
When you come back on Monday you will find out who your new learning buddy is, where your desk is and see a few little changes in the classroom. I think you will see the room and go 'WOW'!
There is a new Room 10 student starting on Monday... he's not your usual pupil but he loves learning. I know you will LOVE him.
See you all on Monday!

Assembly Item from Room 10 Stars!

We presented an item at assembly on Friday. Our item was about how we are working towards becoming confident, independent readers. We shared how to choose a good fit book and what successful, independent reading looks like in our classroom. Our teacher was so proud of our presentation - she said we were all her favourites and gave everyone a Cadbury's Favourite. YUM!
Mathias and Shekinah were the announcers for our item

Aiden's Last Day

Sadly Friday was Aiden's last day in Room 10 as his family are moving to Palmerston North. We had a BIG group hug and wish him all the best at his new school. Aiden was a bit of a 'bling king' and his peg was nearly full! We'll certainly miss his smiling face.
