What do you know about art deco?

How and why did this style of vehicle, architecture and clothing come about?

Why is it an important part of our Hawkes Bay history?

Harakeke - A Super Day Weaving

Today we really stepped up and showed the Mahora values in action. While learning to weave Room 10 students demonstrated..
Courage by giving something new a go
Resilience by keeping on going and not giving up, even though it was a weeny bit tricky!
Friendliness by helping each other and being encouraging
We also showed the skills of patience, kindness and respect for ourselves and each other. We had a magical day. Please watch our slideshow. The accompanying music was chosen because the song is about...
Being strong against obstacles and opposition,
Rising up again after falling,
Continuing on,
You can be shot down, but you won't fall. You are titanium - strong!

Pekapeka Wetlands Slideshow

We had an absolutely super day at Pekapeka Regional Park today! The Wetlands were fascinating and the scenery stunning. We can't wait to share what we learned so keep checking in regularly. Please click and enjoy some of our photos from the day. It was really special to have the opportunity to plant some native flax at Pekapeka and leave something for others to enjoy behind. Did you know that tomorrow is Arbour Day?
Thanks so much to all the Mums and other helpers who came with us - you are awesome!

Could it Be Today? By Ana

Wow! Today was a new day, but not just a new day it was the opening ceremony for the new bike track. This morning when we got to the bike track it was very hot. It felt like I was on fire! But soon enough Mr Pearse came along and started to talk to us and the teachers, well mostly the kids though. As soon as everybody heard Mr Pearse we all stopped and looked at him silently and then he spoke about stuff.

Awesome Ceremony by Divaan

Today it was the opening ceremony. All classes had to come to the field and Amy was there. Amy went onto the pump track and Reicoe, Nina, Sharnika, Cairo, Ezrah, Mathias and I gave art to the sponsors and we said a big thank you. After that Amy rode around the distance track. Then the Black Caps cut the balloons and Jayden and Craig Foss cut the ribbon.

Awesome Bike Track Opening Ceremony by Ezrah

Wow! Today was the official opening of our new bike track. I gave some art to a sponsor. There was a special guest. Amy Martin the under 15 BMX champion was there. We saw Amy going around the pump track without using her pedals. Then some sponsors hopped on a bike. There was a sponsor with an orange t-shirt who was able to go around without using his pedals like Amy. At the end our class got to meet Amy up close. After morning tea and lunch we made bike wheels with an axle and 5 spokes.

Amazing Opening Ceremony by Bostyn

Mahora School got to see Amy Martin the best NZ under 15yrs BMX rider. Amy went around the pump track. I think Amy has been practising a lot of times! When Amy went around the pump track she used no pedals. It was amazing! I couldn't believe my eyes. I said "holey moley! That is awesome!" Blake and Carmen asked Amy some questions. Some classes presented art to the sponsors. The sponsors had a turn on the pump track. They were awesome, especially Amy. There was a clown called Ma Hora. I think it was a girl because Ma is like Grandma. There were yellow balloons on the bikes. Craig Foss and Jayden cut the ribbon because it was Jayden's birthday. Then we went back to class.

The day had finally come. The opening  ceremony for the new bike track. I couldn't wait! Amy, the under fifteen BMX bike champion was there. We had to line up on an angle so we could face Mr Pearse. Nina, Sharnika, Nicolas, Cairo, Ezrah, Mathias, Aradia, Reicoe and Divaan presented their art work to a sponsor. I didn't finish my work but that's okay. Bianca and Reicoe got to ride the new bikes. I can't wait until we get a turn. It's going to be awesome!

Bike Track Ceremony by Mathias

Today at 10.00am we went out onto the field for our bike track opening ceremony. There was a long yellow ribbon between two bikes. Amy, the NZ under 15 BMX champ was there. She did a couple of laps around the pump track. Next Jayden cut the ribbon with Craig Foss because it was his birthday. Ma Hora led 35 kids around the distance track. Then some sponsors rode some bikes around the pump and skills track. Before we went to morning tea there were helmets that spelled WOW on the cricket pitch. We had a photo under the helmets. To finish off the day everyone made a bicycle wheel. Today has been fantastic!

Grand Opening to Our Bike Track by Destiny-Paige

Today there was a ceremony for Mahora School’s bike track. The sponsors got a piece of art from a person from each class. Amy Martin is a BMX bike champion. This year Amy is going to the Netherlands to the BMX Championships. Amy went around the pump track without pedalling. Some of the sponsors rode a bike. Craig Foss, an MP cut the ribbon in between the bikes with Jayden. Jayden was chosen because it was his birthday. When Jayden cut the yellow ribbon, some of the Black Caps cut the yellow balloons and some of the sponsors and some of our community people pulled party poppers. 35 people rode a bike.

WOW!

WOW!
Monday Meet-Up was extra exciting this morning! When we entered the hall we all saw the most amazing sight. This afternoon everyone wrote about what they saw and thought...

Bianca...
"When I walked into the hall I couldn't believe my eyes... there were bikes everywhere! I thought that the best sitter upper will get to ride them. They were brand spanking new."

Ezrah...
" I couldn't believe my eyes, the new bikes were here! I wondered what order the helmets were in. Then suddenly I saw they spelled the word WOW with a line under it. Mr Pearse talked to us about the bikes. Then Mr Pearse said "Should Miss Smith and I have a race?" Mr Pearse won. This week on Friday there will be an opening for our bike track. Fingers crossed for a sunny day on Friday!"

Sharnika...
"The new bikes are very shiny. I was so surprised when I walked into the hall because there were loads of helmets and bikes. Some people had stacked the helmets on top of each one to make the word WOW! My class got chosen to have a special photo. There is a ceremony opening for the bike track and Mr Pearse is looking for 35 kids to ride a bike for the opening but you have to be good."

Jordan...
"The helmets were stacked up and made the word WOW. The bikes were in order. The bikes order was short to tall. The 4th one was the teacher's bike."

Nina...
"Wow! Amazing! I couldn't believe my eyes! The new bikes have arrived! The helmets were lots of different colours. I want a blue one. There were different sizes of the bikes. There was a teachers bike, there were little bikes, there were medium bikes and there were big bikes. We were really lucky we got to have a picture with the bikes with some other classes. I am so excited we are going to have an opening ceremony on Friday!"

Happy Easter, Happy Holidays :)

Phew! Time for a well-deserved two week break. I hope you all enjoy the holidays with your family and do lots of resting, relaxing, reading and writing! Please comment and share what you are up to during the holidays. Make sure you enjoy some chocolate, but not too much or you'll get a tummy ache! It was great to have my Easter Bunny cousin visit Room 10 today. Thanks for the treats - we absolutely loved them!
