Making our own felt slippers!

Today Team Tekau each made their very own pair of felt slippers! We had lots of help from some fantastic people, including Mr Willoughby and the Super 15. A huge thank you to Mr Brian Hales for donating all of the natural wool from his farm! We had so much fun and are so proud of our unique new slippers to wear in our shoeless classroom during winter! It was a challenge and were learned some amazing techniques.
First we had to get our template.
Then choose our wool colour.
We started our layers.
Mr Willoughby doing a demonstration of how it's done.
Continuing to criss-cross our layers.
Mr Willoughby starts soaping the inside after we have cut the foot hole.

Mrs Perry models how to mould the slipper to the persons foot using soapy water.
Everyone loved getting a foot massage!
A big thanks to the kids from Super 15 for helping us!
Alex models her (almost) finished slippers.
What a GREAT day!

Dream Catcher

We really stretched the art side of our brains making these awesome dream catchers! Team Tekau had to make sure they had a fantastic Growth Mindset to complete this tricky task. You all did really well, Ka pai Team Tekau and sweet dreams😴😊

Matariki

What a fun sharing afternoon for Matariki! We loved sharing some of our Tuakana-Teina learning, showing our whanau the Matariki Macarena then planting some vegetables together! It was great to show the Matariki work we have been doing in class as well - our art, korowai cloak and acrostic poems! Thanks to the whanau that were able to come along!

Artist visit

Today Team Tekau with Rooms 9 and 11 were very lucky to have local artist Raewyn Harris come in and teach us some of her fantastic art skills! We learned simple tricks that make our Art look better, like grouping patterns in 3's and different colour combinations that work together! We created some amazing Māori Art! Awesome work everyone!!

Penguin Escape

One cold morning Mrs and Mr Penguin were minding their own business catching fish in the Antarctic Ocean. When they got out of the ocean the leader penguin said their babies were hatching out of their eggs. Mr and Mrs Penguin headed over to the great eggs nest. The egg started cracking and out came the cutest little face you would ever see. Mr and Mrs Penguin too the greatest care of the little penguin. Finally Mrs Penguin found a name for the baby penguin, it was Franky.

Two Years Later...

Franky was old enough to find some fish for himself but he would have to have his parents come with him. Franky was having a great time in the Antarctic Ocean and he saw a fish, "Look! look!" he yelled to Mr and Mrs Penguin but Franky's mum and dad saw a different fish. All three of them swam after their fish. Franky caught hold of his fish but when he turned around there wasn't anyone following him. Franky was lost in the middle of nowhere! Night was coming so Franky saw some seaweed to sleep in. Franky was terrified. In the morning Franky was feeling better but he had company. Suddenly there was a flash of movement. Something fast and grey was circling him. Snap! Snap, Snap, Snap went the jaws and a leopard seal chased Franky around and around, then Devil the leopard seal swallowed Franky whole! But that was not the end. Luckily Devil swallowed Franky so fast he didn't get to chew. Franky felt disgusting green slop all around him and dead fish. All Franky's feathers were getting slimy. "Wait a minute, feathers could help me" said Franky. He started tickling Devil the leopard seal with his feathers. Devil was roaring with laughter and Franky went flying out of Devils mouth and as quick as a flash he zoomed off! Then he bumped into something. It was Franky's parents!

The Great Trick by Elise

One sunny Sunday in the great Pacific Ocean, Ally the seal and Robbie the penguin were swimming to find food. Ally's smart and kind, Robbie's also smart and he's super tricky. Then each saw a glimpse of each other.

Robbie swam closer, Ally swam closer. She was to hungry to be kind to let him live. Me and Robbie's other friends were too far away to save him he thought. Wait we wouldn't even get to say goodbye he realised!! He couldn't go a day without saying goodbye to someone! Even if there was no reason to!

Ally swam closer, closer! Soon me and Robbie's family came in hidden. We had a bag full of fish meat for her to eat instead of Robbie. Wait how would we give the meat to her? Never mind his mum would come up with something she came up with this plan!

His mum had to come up with something soon because she was about to slam those giant jaws! I know! I can push Robbie out of the way! Crash! Splash!! I pushed him out of the way in the knick of time! I saved him kinda, sorta.

His mum shouted " wait before you gobble him up which hopefully you won't we were hoping you would eat these penguins instead!!" Ally asked "are they male?" "Oh of course" shouted his mum. So Ally took a bite then she suddenly shouted "delicious!" Then they all lived happily ever after.

Tuakana-Teina Learning

Today we had our first Tuakana-Teina Learning Session with Team Tahi and Team Waru. This is a great learning relationship where an older tuakana and younger teina share their learning and learn from each other. We introduced Matariki, which we will be learning about over the next week or so and made a Maori musical instrument called a Porotiti. It was great fun sharing our learning and there is lots more to come!
