EOTC Trip to the Faraday Centre and the MTG (Museum Theatre Gallery)

Yesterday we had a fantastic trip over in Napier at the Faraday Centre and MTG. We got to experiment a lot with light at the Faraday Centre and saw some amazing local art at the MTG. It inspired great discussions and thinking around our inquiry question this term-'Are you a Scientist or an Artist?' Quite a few of us are unsure and would like to learn more, and delve into both!! Almost everyone has changed their minds at least once this term!😊🎨💡

Happy birthday Mrs Perry!

Mrs Perry came in to Team Tekau yesterday and we surprised her with a wee bit of a birthday celebration! We had all written our own rhyming poem about Mrs Perry and made it into a book for her. Alex was so kind to bake a cake that we could all share together too! And, of course we got our best singing voices out! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MRS PERRY!! 🎂

Maui and the Sun

One big focus in our reading this term is being able to retell a story with the main events in order. We read this Maori tale and retold the story in a sequence strip. Afterwards we made korus and did weaving to create our own suns. They look so neat, this is an awesome sample by Elijah! Ka pai Team Tekau!

Super, Duper Quick Writes!

This morning Team Tekau used a photograph to inspire them to write a quick story. They had to have a beginning, middle and end and use great descriptive words. Check out these fantastic stories...

One beautiful, brilliant morning the incredible divers went to a shop and found some wet suits. They bought them and went on a white, shiny boat. "Come on boys! We've got a job to do," they said. When they got to a deep surface they jumped out of the boat. When they got into the sea they saw something. It was a shark! I swam as fast as possible until I noticed it wanted to play. When I played with him he gave me a high five. He did not have a name so I gave him a name. I called him Sharkboy. Then I lived with him.

Autumn Adventure

One sunny morning Team Tekau went for a walk around the school looking at the differences the Autumn season brings to our environment. When we got to the playground we had a leaf fight with the huge piles of Autumn leaves. It was great fun! We came back to the classroom and planned our Autumn writing. We even brought bunches of leaves into the classroom to inspire our ideas! After brainstorming and going through our writing process, we published our beautiful work with a border of Autumn leaf rubbings. They look awesome! Great work Team Tekau, you should all be proud of your fantastic writing!

Super cyclists!

We are so lucky at Mahora School to have Bikes in Schools. Everyone has their own helmet too. Team Tekau had a fantastic cycle in the beautiful Autumn sunshine on Tuesday afternoon. When we got back to class we counted how many kilometers we each did on the distance track and add it to our overall total! Some super cyclists have cycled the same distance it would be to cycle from Mahora School to Ocean Beach!

Hi from Mrs Perry!

Morena Team Tekau!
Missing you all, but guess what? On Monday I am coming to be a reliever in Room 3. I am pretty excited about that and it means I will get to see you all. Just warning you, hugs will be compulsory! I have been busy taking care of Mr Perry and we are enjoying spending lots of time together. Today he might get to have a ride in a very old plane called a Gypsy Moth. It's a plane that was used even before  the second World War.  I hope George is behaving himself and not 'monkeying' around too much...
I have been reading all the stories you wrote last term in your Writing books (which are coming back to school TODAY) and I am so impressed with your writing progress. Give yourself a pat on the back, tell yourself how awesome you are because it is true. I can't wait to come and have a wee korero about what you have done well and your next writing step. I know Miss Birrell can't wait either! See you all soon xox
