Water, Water Everywhere!

We love to drink water in Team Tekau. Today 10 bottles came our way when we had Friday PTA Pizza. Water really is the best drink! Check out the water facts to find out more about the most valuable liquid in the world...
  • Water is made up of two elements, hydrogen and oxygen. Its chemical formula is H2O.
  • Each molecule of water is made up of two hydrogen atoms bonded to a single oxygen atom.
  • The existence of water is essential for life on Earth.
  • Water has three different states, liquid, solid and gas.
  • The word water usually refers to water in its liquid state. The solid state of water is known as ice while the gas state of water is known as steam or water vapor.
  • Water covers around 70% of the Earth’s surface.
  • The three largest oceans on Earth are the Pacific Ocean (largest), the Atlantic Ocean (second largest) and the Indian Ocean (third largest). More ocean facts
  • Found in the Pacific Ocean, the Mariana Trench is the deepest known point in the world’s oceans.
  • Ocean tides are caused by the rotation of the Earth and the gravitational pull of the Moon and Sun acting on ocean water.
  • Water from a sea or ocean is known as seawater. On average, every kilogram (2.2lb) of seawater contains around 35 grams (1.2 oz) of dissolved salt.
  • The freezing point of water lowers as the amount of salt dissolved in at increases. With average levels of salt, seawater freezes at -2 °C (28.4 °F).
  • The longest river in the world is the Nile River, it reaches 6650 kilometers in length (4132 miles).
  • The second longest river in the world is the Amazon River, it reaches 6400 kilometres (4000 miles) in length.

The Mixed Up Teacher By Ella

One day I went to school and said, "Good morning Mrs Perry!" But she answered, "Go home!" but I said, "School's just started and I've got nothing to do!"

Then the bell went and Mrs Perry said, "Lunch time!". When we came in we went to our desks and she said,"Bike time!" I said it wasn't bike time, it was maths time, but we still went biking.

Mrs Perry said "It's raining!" but I said, "The sun is shining!" Then she saw a mouse but I said, "Mrs Perry, it's a rat!" Now she said "It's home time!" and it was home time.

When I got home I told my mum my teacher was CRAZY!!!

A Rain Poem by Emily

Rain is fresh, cold and icy,
and not even a bit hard and spicy,
Rain  smells clean, not like a bean,
It feels like a little tickle on my hand,
Not like a little prickle on my hand,
Rain looks like heaps of tears,
It doesn't look like heaps of pears,
it tastes like ice falling on my tongue,
Rain smells like flowers,
But doesn't smell like showers.

Alex's Visual Presentation - My Snowball

Wow Alex! What a fabulous presentation of a delightful poem. We all enjoyed you sharing it.
Ka mau te wehi - You are awesome :)

Rain by Rapaira

One night I woke up and heard a big BANG, BANG!
I looked out my window and there was very powerful rain. It looked like the world was crying.
It smelt fresh and clean and it sounded like tin cans raining down.
It felt like little bullets were landing on me or tiny ants were crawling all over me.
It was annoying.
The rain got heavier and heavier and then it started to look like it had skinny blue swords.
The sounds started to sound like dinosaurs were clashing on to the ground and the taste started to grab more flavour.
Then it started to hail so I went outside and it started to rain again.
I went back inside but it was boring.
Then the sun appeared, the rain disappeared and I felt thrilled.

Giggle Poem - Published by Elise

Elise shared this poem she learned 'off by heart' as one of Team Tekau's Homework challenges. We loved it and asked her to publish and illustrate it. Ka mau te wehi Elise :)

My Daddy snores and sucks his toes.
My brother likes to lick his nose.
My doggy meows, my kitten barks.
My goldfish likes to chase sticks in parks
My sister walks while upside down.
My mum hops all over town.
Her skin is purple don't you know,
And I am green from head to toe.
My dad is red, my sisters blue
My brothers yellow, yes it's true.
We all wear rain coats in the sun
And gobble lima beans for fun.
We're very special, can't you see?
We're just a normal family!

Team Tekau Smarties!

We are learning about how we can show information in Maths. We learned that data (information) can be displayed in lots of different ways.  Don't tell anyone but... we all had a box of Smarties today! We were not allowed to eat them until we had drawn a tally chart to show what colours and how many smarties were inside our box.  It was super fun and then we got to eat them! Deeeeelicious!
We had to make a chart with columns and rows and add up the totals. Most boxes had 14 or 15 smarties inside them. Check the photos of us at work...

Shoes and Reading? What's up here?

Mrs Perry LOVES shoes but we thought she took things a bit far bringing them all to school.
So, what did we learn?

We learnt that shoes are like books. By Keira

Shoes are like books because you choose a good fit book like you have to choose good fit shoes. By Iziah

Romeo and Juliet...

When Mrs Perry popped into Room 10 on Sunday she found two beautiful new butterflies who had hatched and were ready to set off into the big, wide world. She named them Romeo and Juliet, after two famous characters from a novel by William Shakespeare. There are only 4 more chrysalis left to hatch in our room.
Two new butterflies - a male and a female!

Team Tekau Shout-Outs!

New for March - Shout-outs in Team Tekau!
What is a shout-out?

Urban Dictionary: shout-out

www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=shout-out

shout-out (n.) Slang. A public expression of thanks or gratitude

So whats the deal?
Let's recognise students in Team Tekau who are showing our values. Fill out a 'shout-out' form and post it in the classroom box. We'll check it daily so we can thank those super students for being so wonderful!
